Just like keeping any other pet, having a bird is a big responsibility. Birds require special care and understanding, and before you buy a bird you should read some guides about how to keep the bird happy and healthy. Too many people think that it will bird is child’s play and buy them without having a clue how to care for them properly.

One of the most important things to consider is the birdcage. Your birds should have ample room in the cage and it should be placed in a bright and sunny location away from any drafts. If you place the birdcage near a window make sure that the sunlight is not directly hitting the birds, as although they would be in the sun in the wild they also have the opportunity to go in the shade when it gets too hot. When in a cage this is probably not possible. However, having said that it is a good idea to let them have some sun every day, that you should limit this to around 30 minutes. Make sure you do not place the cage directly over any heating or cooling vents as this could dehydrate the birds.

The type of cage front you choose is also very important. Punchbar cage fronts are a popular choice as they are strong and sturdy while allowing the birds be able to see out.
